Mission Spotlight

New Family Health History Tool

Knowing your family health history is important because it can help you learn about your risk of developing breast cancer. This information can then be used as you talk with your doctor about your breast health. Komen has adapted the Surgeon General's "My Family Health Portrait" tool to make it easier to gather and organize your family health history. We encourage you to explore this new internet-based tool, gather your own family health history, and share it with others!

A truly unique garden center, Breezewood Gardens & Gifts is a destination for fun and creativity. Family owned and operated in Chagrin Falls since 1976, they want to help you enjoy life to the fullest.

Susan G. Komen Northeast Ohio is proud to partner with Breezewood Gardens & Gifts, our exclusive provider for all of our floral needs. “Susan G. Komen of Northeast Ohio means so much to Breezewood, our staff, and many of our customers who have all become family to us. Breast cancer has affected many people close to us as we have a few survivors that are a part of the Breezewood staff and we also have staff members with family members who are survivors. We hope that the awareness that our partnership brings to the community will allow more people to learn about the resources Komen of Northeast Ohio offers. While we have been working together for many years through local volunteers and Race for the Cure, we are so excited to make it an official partnership!”

Don't Put It Off

University Hospitals reminds you that Breast cancer doesn’t occur only during October. If you haven’t had your annual mammogram, UH makes it convenient to schedule one at one of our 28 screening locations throughout NE Ohio. Too busy to schedule an appointment? No worries, we have you covered by offering two programs to meet the needs of even the busiest individual.

Walk In

Now you can walk in and have your screening mammogram at any time of the day with little or no wait. We offer this option at all 28 screening locations.

30 Minute Results

Worried about your screening mammogram results? The wait is over. Now you can get your screening results in just 30 minutes after completion of your screening mammogram. And, if your mammogram reveals an area of concern, you can choose to have a full work up at your earliest convenience. The work up includes additional imaging tests and you are given the results that day. If a surgical biopsy is recommended, we will schedule your consultation with one of our world class specialized breast providers before leaving the office.

To schedule your mammogram, call 1-866-643-2554

Does a Fast Breast MRI make sense for me?

The “Fast Breast MRI” is a 10-minute, self-pay examination that scientific studies have shown to be effective in finding invasive breast cancers. It is ideal for women with dense breast tissue who desire additional breast cancer screening but do not meet the criteria to qualify for a conventional breast MRI study based on their lifetime risk for breast cancer. The conventional breast MRI study (45 minutes) is intended for women with a higher risk for developing breast cancer, such as BRCA1/2 genetic mutations, etc. The Fast Breast MRI does not detect the spectrum of diseases that can be detected by the conventional breast MRI exam. As with any screening exam, additional non-cancerous lesions may also be detected that may require biopsy or additional follow-up.

What to Expect

The Fast Breast MRI requires an injection of contrast that is given through an IV. The study will be interpreted by a specially trained breast radiologist and the results will be sent to your doctor. You will need a doctor’s order for this exam. There is no radiation associated with this study.

Who Should Get this Procedure?

The Fast Breast MRI is a low cost, self-pay supplemental study for women with dense breast tissue who want a screening that is more sensitive to breast cancer than mammography. The Fast Breast MRI may detect cancers not visible on a mammogram but is not intended to replace mammography. Routine screening mammograms are still recommended.

To obtain more information or schedule an appointment, call 877-931-3697
